Sport in the past week has unfortunately seen a lot of cancellations given the Polar weather we had in the past week, losing the block fixture against John Fisher due to frozen pitches. That doesn’t mean that we can’t look forward to our upcoming block fixture against St. George’s Harpenden which happens to be our last rugby fixtures of the season, as well as results from netball, girl’s rugby and an update on our London Youth Games run at U16 basketball.
But firstly, the 1st XV returned to winning ways in midweek, running out 48-12 winner against Latymer Upper School with a slick performance that showcased the depth in our senior rugby, with a lot of the 2nd XV getting a run out in that match and also putting in good performances. The 3rd XV had a tough challenge against Ibstock and despite not winning the game, just being able to consistently field a 3rd XV is a massive triumph in itself and further shows that strength in depth we have in senior rugby.
The girls rugby team also managed to field their first ever 2nd XV team in midweek against Gordon’s and despite being on the wrong side of the result, the girls put in a very good shift against them. Notwithstanding the fact that for a lot of the girls it was their first ever competitive rugby fixture! We are extremely proud of where girls rugby is at the school now given it’s pretty much still in its infancy.
The A and B netball squads performed incredibly this week in their matches against Box Hill. A’s won by 57- 6 and B’s by 28 – 8 – a combined average of over two goals per minute. Mae Bush’s debut as GA was so incredible that it has sent Miss Passco and Mrs. Shoebridge into an internal netball crisis as to why she’s been WA for this season! She joins a team of incredible GA/GS who consistently amaze us with their shooting skills. Great work girls!
The U16 basketball team travelled to Wilson’s School for the next round of the London Youth Games this past week. The match was an extremely close one and was back and forwards the whole way – Alex (in Y10 no less) was leading the way with his aggressive poise attacking the basket. Unfortunately, in a heartbreaking series of events, Tiffin lost by 2 points at the end of the match to signal the end of their run.
