News latest

This past week of sport has mainly been centred around an eventually difficult block fixture against St. George’s Harpenden for Tiffin Rugby, as well as another positive 1st XV result on the following midweek game against Saint Cecilia’s to report on. We look forward to the Dave Morris Cup happening this weekend, an internal block fixture honouring our late Director of Sport’s legacy, with the big Year 12 vs Year 13 clash headlining the morning’s rugby to celebrate the end of our rugby season.

Last weekend we had a tough block fixture against St. George’s Harpenden, a school that has developed the likes of Owen Farrell, Maro Itoje and George Ford, showing the calibre and prestige of school we pride ourselves on playing against. We ran them close in our U13A’s (15-10), U14A’s (7-16), and the 1st XV (25-31) but unfortunately Tiffin were on the wrong side of these results. The big win of the weekend was from the U14B’s who won 33-14 from being behind in the first half, an amazing second half comeback! The U13B’s also had a good showing with the spoils shared following a hard fought 20-20 draw.

The 1st XV looked to put their disappointment to bed quickly to bounce back against Saint Cecilia’s in midweek. It was also a good chance for some of our prospective 1st XV players for next season to be given a run out and a chance to gel with their teammates for next season. Try scorers included Ben S and Tommy G with the final score running up to 36-19 in the end. That brings the 1st XV’s record up to 15 wins and 6 losses, easily one of our best senior rugby seasons in recent memory – the boys should be as proud as we are for their tremendous season.

Following the U16’s really strong year, we are really excited to see how they play in senior rugby next season – the matches vs Harrodian next week will be their first opportunity to fully play together as next year’s billed 1st XV and 2nd XV on an exciting afternoon at Grists which officially closes out the rugby season.

A short sports report this week but hopefully we’ll a lot more to report on next week, with U13 rugby fixtures against Harrodian, U15 fixtures against Ibstock Place, an U18 basketball fixture against Epsom College, the Boroughs netball tournament as well as table tennis tournaments – we look forward to an exciting week of sport in the lead up to half-term!
