After a well-earned half-term break for staff and students alike, Tiffin Sport has wasted no time in kicking off in the run up to Christmas.

Our first weekend fixtures this half-term were very successful for Tiffin Rugby – eight wins and one loss against a mix of Ewell Castle and Dulwich College, a day to be proud of. The U16B’s won their first game of the season against Dulwich College after a dominant display and, most importantly, they played the game in the right spirit. The U14B’s also won against Dulwich, building on their win before half-term and their performance level is increasing game by game.

Undoubtedly, the big game this week was our 1st XV taking on Coopers’ Company & Coburn School in the National Vase. After the journey to Upminster the scene was set for a tough game with some difficult weather to deal with. Unfortunately, Tiffin fell behind 15-0 relatively early in the game and that deficit proved too much to overcome in the end. Despite a valiant second half effort, the final score ended up 12-18 to Coopers’. With the fixtures now coming thick and fast, it’s important for the 1st XV to regroup and go again, and we’re sure they will.

We have had two basketball fixtures since our return, starting off with our U16’s winning against Ibstock Place 51-46. Our U14’s then competed in the qualifying rounds of the London Youth Games. After travelling just down the road to Chessington Sports Centre, they managed to play well enough in their pool games for the second seed. The semi-final against Chessington resulted in a brilliant performance to reach the final against Southborough. The final was on full court and the boys played really well against a handy Southborough side but unfortunately lost by 5 after a couple of missed attempts down the stretch. The boys should be really proud to come second in the Kingston Borough, narrowly missing out on progressing to the next round. The U16 London Youth Games will try their luck in a couple of weeks time.

The senior badminton team lost its 2 year unbeaten run to the exceptional Wilson’s team on Wednesday afternoon. Even though our A team lost their match, there was better news for the B team who won by an impressive 7 games to 2.

This rounds up our sport at Tiffin School since coming back from half-term. Best of luck to all involved in fixtures over the next week!
