What a week of sport for Tiffin we have to report on. A solid week of training culminated in some impressive results for our rugby program against a strong KCS Wimbledon, specifically in the seniors.

Our 1st XV were looking to bounce back quickly after their unfortunate Vase exit against a very handy outfit in KCS Wimbledon, who were bolstered by a few boys who were part of their U15 National Cup run to Twickenham last season. KCS made a strong start, resulting in Tiffin being down 12-7 at halftime with it all to do in the second half. What followed was a remarkable second half performance, completing the comeback and not allowing any more KCS points to be scored. The final score of 20-12 showed a mightily impressive result for Tiffin. Certainly a historic result, given it’s the first victory against KCS 1st’s since 2010, which shows how tough the fixture is. This takes their record for the season to 11 wins and 1 loss. As well as they’re doing, a massive challenge against St. George’s Weybridge awaits, where a win will catapult them up the Daily Mail Trophy ranks, where Tiffin currently sit 33rd in the country.

The senior rugby results didn’t stop there. The 2nd XV had a chance to show the progression they’ve been making so far this season against a very good KCS 2nd’s side. In any other year, a few of these boys would be in the 1st XV, such is the strength of our senior rugby program currently. As a result of their progression as a side, this resulted in a quality performance and 21-10 victory against KCS, the first time the 2s have won this fixture since 2015.

The shock performance of the week goes to our U16B’s. Against a very handy KCS side, who were part of the squad that got to the aforementioned Twickenham National Cup Final last season, it looked to be an uphill challenge for Tiffin. On a wet Saturday morning away at Kingsway, they produced a performance and result for the books. Grit, determination and heart perfectly described this game from Tiffin. After finding ourselves up 17-0 from an Oscar hattrick, the game was controlled perfectly from the boot, which resulted in the game finishing 29-5 and the boys were justifiably elated with the result! Massive congratulations to those involved.

Rugby

Well done to the U13B’s and C’s who also beat KCS in midweek, showing their constant improvement as a year group. The mighty U12E’s also got a result and win against KCS too!

Away from rugby, the Sixth Form Basketball team had their first match against Hollyfield this season. In front of a decent crowd, who generated a great atmosphere, a really exciting game ensued. It was back and forth the whole way as it was a close match up. Tiffin found themselves up 55-52 with seconds to go after a clutch stepback from Panos, but Tiffin hearts were broken when Hollyfield hit a buzzer beater from the corner to tie the game 55-55 and send it to overtime. Tiffin fought hard in overtime but Hollyfield ended up 59-57 winners. It was nonetheless an unbelievably exciting game – well done to all involved!

That concludes our sports roundup for this week, thanks for reading and good luck to all Tiffin athletes for their fixtures over the coming week!
