17 Sixth Form French students have taken part in the first leg of this long running exchange programme with the Lycée Jeanne d’Arc, Caen. Their partners will come to us in February.
The week’s programme in Caen included a first weekend with their host families followed by a series of guided tours provided by the students themselves with Mr Williams completing the many gaps. Further visits to the Mémorial, Caen theatre and Caen Yacht Club provided the students with a variety of spoken French to enjoy. The final day was spent in the beautiful city of Rouen where a number of the more unusual aspects of the city were explored before a communal lunch. The Rouen Musée des Beaux Arts houses a fine collection of impressionist paintings as well as a single, priceless Caravaggio. Our guide gave us an hour’s captivating insight into painting technique through these two periods.
There was just time before we returned on Eurostar for two of our students to test the strength of the French customs security zone at Gare de Nord. Needless to say, it was found wanting.
