Over the past term, a number of Sixth Form Drama students put together an entirely student-run production of Martin McDonagh’s ‘The Pillowman’. This Olivier award winning play tells the story of a writer, whose gruesome short stories have led to his interrogation in a dystopian police state.
The production, and its final quality, was testament to the dedication of the students involved. The atmosphere that director George (Y13) created, and the tour-de-force performances of the cast of Louie (Y12), Numair (Y12), Noah (Y12), as well as Arthur (Y12) who took on the leading role of Katurian, came together to create something truly special. The audiences remarked on the exceptional quality of the acting – the play is minimalistic in nature, so its success depends entirely on the actors’ ability to deliver the complex, difficult script and they all absolutely rose to the challenge.
It was fantastic to see so many year groups coming together – from Nad (Y11) making a cameo, to the number of students from Year 10-13 who came along to support. It is testament to the incredible community that surrounds Tiffin Drama, which director George’s post-show send off referenced, which extends to the ‘Friends of Tiffin Music’ who so generously ran the show bar. It is ultimately the passion and dedication of the students involved, and the bonds they form, that makes Tiffin Drama so special.
All the students involved should be incredibly proud – a fantastic achievement.
